Apple has designed HomePod and HomePod mini with privacy in mind. For example, nothing you say is sent to Apple servers until HomePod recognizes "Hey Siri." Moreover, all communication between your HomePod and Apple's servers is encrypted and anonymized.
Even so, Apple provides the ability for you to turn off "Hey Siri" on HomePod. Simply say, "Hey Siri, stop listening." When "Hey Siri" is turned off, you can still talk to Siri by touching and holding the top of the HomePod.
In addition, Siri uses your HomePod location to provide local information such as traffic, weather, and nearby businesses. You can turn off Location Services on HomePod by following these steps.
- Launch the Home app on your iOS device.
- Tap the HomePod card.
- Scroll down and tap the Settings (cog) icon.
- Switch off the toggle next to Location Services.
Siri on your HomePod can be used to access your messages, notes, and reminders, but you can disable this ability if it's a privacy concern. To learn how, check out our dedicate how-to article on disabling Personal Requests on HomePod.
